All clothing donations are gratefully accepted. Please leave all donations in the West Room Two. Thank you for your ongoing support of this community outreach.

Several years ago, Partners for Change and Social Justice prayerfully considered a request from Halton Anti-Poverty Coalition to open a free store in the Burlington core. We soon came to see that sharing with our brothers and sisters the clothes that had been on our backs blended perfectly with our desire to develop relationships with the community surrounding St. Christopher’s.

Why a free store you might ask?

Many people on social assistance or working in minimum wage jobs are unable to afford to purchase clothing for themselves and their children; there is nothing left over after the high cost of shelter, food and transportation. Children go to school without adequate clothing. Men and women try to find jobs without appropriate clothing. People don’t have clothes that adequately protect them from the weather. In short, people suffer.  Every Saturday, from 10:00am to Noon, and Tuesday from 4:00 - 6:00pm, we offer free clothing for men, women and children, and a welcoming respite.

How might you contribute to this ministry?

Each Saturday morning and Tuesday afternoon,  team members work at Open Doors and they are always looking for people from the congregation to join them; to help set up the store as well as to mingle with our guests. High school students looking for volunteer hours might find this to be the perfect opportunity. If you don’t have a free Saturday or Tuesday, consider donating some of your gently used clothing. Most importantly, please keep the Open Doors project, the Partners for Change and Social Justice team, and our guests in your prayers.
