Down to Earth Coffee
Over a year ago St. Christopher's made the decision to make a more ethical choice in our purchase of coffee. We bought Fair Trade certified coffee - this means that the coffee we serve is purchased from a company that pays a more fair price to the farmer. The support for this change has been wonderful. We have recently found a new source for coffee - the Down to Earth company in Costa Rica. And almost unanimously - the best coffee we have ever had! Down to Earth is not certified Fair Trade - because they go above and beyond those policies. They are getting their own unique certification in the new year. Also, they are set up as a source for fundraising activities.
You will find members of The Partners for Change and Social Justice Group and the High School Youth Group with order forms. You can order 1 pound bags of coffee - 3 kinds, 4 roasts each - as well as chocolate covered coffee beans -- white, milk and dark. The proceeds from this fundraising will be used to support mission trip activities by these 2 groups. We are investigating the possibility of a mission trip to Costa Rica to work on the Boruca reservation and to support the San Jose street children. By using the coffee from Down to Earth in the kitchen, selling their products to raise funds, and then visiting that country, we hope to establish a long term, full circle, outreach relationship.
Please visit the display board for more information on the company and the products. If you have any questions I will be happy to talk to you. To learn even more about this company and products visit their website www.godowntoearth.org.
